Default Let's Play all NES / SNES games

For some reason I got it into my head to try to play every NES or SNES game and put it up on youtube. I figured no one would do something that time consumingly stupid, but it turns out a few have. Or at least they've tried. I haven't looked too much into it yet as it was just an idea. What do people think of such a crazy idea?

If I were to attempt this, I would probably play them in alphabetical order rather than chronological order, simply because one of the people who is / has attempted this did chronological order.

This would be a multi-year endeavor, which I would not begin posting videos until I had plenty recorded to ensure I would stick with it. Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated before I foolishly waste my time (not that I spend it wisely as it is).

A very general approach that I've considered would be to either 1) pick one console or the other OR 2) play one game from both consoles at a time to break it up.

The amount of time it would take to even SAMPLE every single SNES/NES game would destroy the soul of a much stronger man than I.

I did every NES game once. Put them on for a minute or so just to sort out the complete dogshit from a romset I acquired. Took forever.

It's not Youtube, but Absnerdity has been steadily trying to beat Every SNES Game, and TMR has been doing the same for Every NES Game.

I.. er... don't think you should? A better idea would be to pick up to 50 games on the chosen system you don't already know very well but which you think might be interesting. If you absolutely must slum it, pick 50 neglected/rarely remembered games that might only be remotely interesting.

Even if you want to go ahead with the original idea, I seriously think you should filter down the system's library by AT LEAST one half. For the NES, maybe go to a third. That's another thing, the SNES is probably going to be a lot more fun.

I'm assuming all the boring games will be single video play sessions. But I don't think people will even want to watch most of those. If you want them to be even slightly interesting, you could read up on the mechanics on gamefaqs first so you know how to play, and maybe research what the game's story/setting is about. The risk is you'd have 500 NES videos of "I don't understand what is going on or what I'm doing" like a bad Game Grumps episode.

You'd have to be crazy to try something like that.

For what it's worth, I've been thoroughly enjoying both of your crazy efforts to plow on through. Even when you hit pure garbage.

Good thoughts all around. I think I will go through them and pick out ones that are more likely to have good entertainment value for viewers. I'll avoid arcade-style games with no real ending point and most (probably all) sports games.

I don't want to look up any strategies or things about games I haven't played before, because I think it will be fun to figure stuff out. The reason I really started focusing on this idea is because I feel like too often with games today there is little to solve. I remember back in the day trying to figure out what the hell was going on with the original Final Fantasy. It is fun to keep at it and beat what seemed impossible at once. I like to read the manual before I start a game, but that is about it.

I'll put some more thought into it and maybe work out a list of the games I'll do. I owned far more SNES titles than NES titles, which is one reason I want to try out the NES library. I'm sure there will be games I've never played that I will enjoy.

Any thoughts as to other games / game types to avoid for being lackluster for viewing?

OK. As long as you have some basic understanding of the controls and mechanics of the game. Watching someone fumble around because they don't have the most basic idea of how a games works is painful and not fun to watch.

So I have a tentative list of 200 titles after going through them. I wasn't aiming for any number so it was kind of amusing that I landed at exactly 200. The number will probably change as I'm going through, but that is my current goal. It was a somewhat arbitrary grouping based on personal preference, reviews, ratings, genre, variety, viewing potential, and game length. Some series of games I chose a single game and others I chose all.

I suppose the only remaining decision I have to make is to complete games before uploading them or upload videos as I progress through individual titles. There are merits for both and I am leaning towards uploading once the game is complete, but I do enjoy uploading as I progress to see comments. I may end up doing a mixture of both.
