Default Let's Play SD Gundam G Generation Overworld

Hello everyone and welcome to the Let’s play of SD Gundam G Generation Overworld

SD Gundam G Generation Overworld is the latest in the long-lasting series of Gundam strategy games made by Banpresto. It was released for the PSP in September of 2012. For those who are not in the know, Gundam is a very long-standing (It's over 30 years old!) anime series about giant robots, the people who pilot them, and the wars they fight in. Gundam is commonly considered to be part of the "real robot" camp of giant robots, because the stories told are commonly about people in war, though the mobile suits they pilot may be absolutely fantastical in power. G Generation games draw upon this history, and allow players to take part in the battles that define the series.

Though it has had many types of gameplay in the past, modern G Generation games are generally split into two main styles:

The first style is the "handheld" style, which was first seen mainly in a title called Monoeyes Gundams for the Wonderswan. The "handheld" style of games generally follows a single plotline that the player goes through, and allows them to capture enemy mobile suits and either break them down into special parts, or upgrade them using these special parts into new mobile suits.

The second style is the "console" style, which probably started around G Generation Zero, but the one that really tied this style to me is G Generation F. In this style, the game is really more of a "Collect 'em all!" type of game: You get presented with a set of series that you can play through (for example, in G Gen F, you can pick to play through the Mobile Suit Gundam storyline, or the Zeta Gundam storyline, or the Gundam X storyline, or so on), and while you can still capture or purchase new mobile suits, you primarily get more by "leveling up" your existing MS and then "evolving" them once they reach a certain level into other models. You could also choose not to evolve the MS, in which case leveling up gives you more stats, making the MS more powerful.

G Gen Overworld is a bit of a mix of both of these styles; the primary gameplay in G Gen Overworld is to choose series-related missions from a list, as well as evolving your MS into new models in order to fill out the mobile suit catalogue. however, the missions are not actually alligned by series, and are instead grouped into 4 sets based on a "theme". Each mission is still GENERALLY focused on one episode of the appropriate anime, but if you complete certain things then the mission will change. I'll go into more details about this when I get to the first mission.
Proactive disclosure: I don't actually speak Japanese. I can understand enough of it to play this kind of game (especially since I've played a lot of G Gen), and I also understand the plots of just about all the missions because I've seen all the appropriate shows. However, if I happen to misread any of the dialog, please let me know!

So, with no further ado, let's hop right in!

Default CH. 0 Over Impact

So the game begins with the Londo Bell battleship Nahel Argama a battle is currently being waged between Londo Bell and the Neo Zeon remnants that go by “Sleeves” at the colony of Laplace on Side 4.

The source of this conflict is the white mobile suit called the Unicorn, which contains a secret referred to as Laplace’s Box. And whatever it is, Sleeves wants its hands on it, and apparently don’t give a flying fuck if they’re attacking around a civilian colony.

The unlucky pilot of the Unicorn is Banagher Links, who doesn’t exactly like the fact that, in the space of maybe a week or so, is sitting in the cockpit of a mobile suit that’s now become the center of the universe for every power bloc in the Earth Sphere and (if the ruined structure in the background is any indication) innocent people have already died as a result.

So, he prepares to activate the Unicorn’s NT-D system, also known as Destroy Mode. Essentially, it’s a take on going Super Saiyan. But suddenly, the transition stops and the Unicorn starts giving off a strange signal…

After running some scans on the Unicorn, they discover that the Unicorn is tapping into the World Signal, resonating with something deep within the core of the Earth. Gasp!

That’s when we get introduced to this chick. She goes by the name of Aphrodia, who takes it upon herself to be judge and guide of the people of the world through the use of the Generation System, an ancient artifact capable of merging worlds together, much like Orguss and its dimension bomb, but a lot cleaner.

By that, a fleet of strange silver aliens, known as ELS from the Gundam 00 Movie, suddenly show up on the battlefield on the other side of Laplace

The alien creatures make with the OM NOM NOM and consume the Sleeves mechs. Fearing they’re next, Unicorn and the Nahel Argama prepare to fight for their lives, hopelessly outnumbered…

Then reinforcements arrive in the form of Setsuna F. Seiei and his gundam the 00 Quanta

First, the stats of Setsuna and the 00 Quanta. On the right you have all the basic information: HP, EN (which fuels the attacks of the mech), and Size (which has effects on accuracy when attacking smaller or larger mechs, kinda like attacking small creatures in DnD). Below that is the Unit Attack (affects attack strength), Unit Defense (affects incoming damage), Unit Mobility (affects dodge rate), and Movement Speed (the number of squares it can move a turn). And then below that you have terrain modifiers, but that’s largely unnecessary here. On the left you have the list of attacks the Gundam has.

On the next page is the various unit abilities it has. There are generally three different types of effects: ones that are always on, ones that activate from a menu during your turn, and ones that activate from the menu when you get attacked.

Here’s an overview of the pilot, Setsuna. On the right is his Morale Points, which go up or down depending on what happens over the course of the battle. The higher it goes, abilities activate, some attack ranges increase, and damage increases. Below that are the pilot’s stats, from top to bottom:

Shooting: Affects the accuracy of ranged weapons.

Melee: Affects the accuracy of melee weapons.

Reaction: Affects dodge rate.

Defense: Affects damage reduction.

Awakening: This stat is accuracy and range of MP and remote weapons (such as Fin Funnels, GN Fangs, etc.) and also helps with dodge rate.

Leadership: This affects the size of Leadership and Master auras. It’s important for a handful of pilot skills and for support attacking and support defending.

Charm: An ability that affects pilot EXP when you defeat enemy units.

The other side details the pilot’s abilities, kill count, and the number of Ace Points they have. Setsuna’s only ability is that of Innovator which increases Reaction and Awaken by 5 (Max 20). Increases damage dealt and reduces damage received by 20% when at Super High tension.

The next page is master skills which is used for the guest and your own masters which you choose later at the end of this stage and A,B, and C stage blocks Setsuna’s master skill is Infinite MP which for one turn allows him infinite MP use.

Warships are largely the same as they were in the last game: units that can carry up to 9 units and their pilots. It can store mecha for transport, repairs, and recharging, and have their own specialized effects based on who's on the bridge crew.

Anyway, let's get on with the game and get to blowing shit up!
So first I have the Unicorn move up and attack one of the ELS I have the Warship support Banagher thus killing it which gives us another mechanic to talk about Chance Step. Every time a unit kills an enemy up to three times though some skills change this the Unit can move and attack again.

Then I have Setsuna attack with a Lock 3 attack Lock attacks are basically where you lock on to the number of enemies and attack them
[IMG]http://i.imgur.com/UELbPfd.jpg/IMG]
After taking out a good portion of the opening party of ELS more show up but thankfully we get reinforcements too.

First to arrive is Amuro Ray in the RX93 Nu Gundam

Next is Kira Yamato in the ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam

After that is Domon Kasshu in the GF13-17NJII God Gundam

Finally we have the newcomer to the Gundam franchise Flit Asuno in the AGE-1 Gundam AGE 1 Normal

First I have Kira attack with a Lock 3 attack

After that we see more and bigger ELS

We then are treated to an animated cutscene where Setsuna uses Quantum Burst to connect with the World Core and gets hurt for it as the other four gundams besides the Unicorn try to attack.

Default CH. 0 Over Impact pt. 2

So because I'm an idiot and didn't know about the 25 image limit i'm going to have to split CH.0 into 2 parts.
With the end of the cutscene we now come to our final gameplay element for the update Overimpact which basically heals your former allies and makes you fight them all thankfully though for this mission we get healed and only have to beat one.

I have the Unicorn and Quanta go after the Nu gundam and we defeat him fairly quick

After that everyone returns back to normal and we see a mysterious MS enter the world core and with that we finish the first stage.

I don't know who this "Loran" is, but Laura Rolla and the Militia's Turn A Gundam are clearly the right choice!

Default CH. 0.5 menu explanations

Alright here is a quick update

Well the votes are in and our first master for this playthrough is Loran Cehack/Laura Rolla

Now after we going to the main menu which is where will be spending most of our time and the current selected icon is the operation room which is where we will set up our team

The first Icon is the group selection this where you will pick who is in your group and what mobile suit they pilot as well as your ship and crew

Next is the planning menu which is where you will evolve combine and exchange suits I will go into more detail as the time comes

Third is the Character menu where you can view the characters you have and buy new ones

Fourth is the my character page where you can create your own custom character

Fifth is the capture menu where you can keep or sell capture mobile suits I’ll talk more about the when we start stage 1

Lastly is the List menu where you can view all of you characters, Mobile suits, Warships and option parts

Now we are going to the group selection menu as you can see we have 2 open slots one for a pilot and the other for the executive officer of the warship and that’s where you guys come in I want you to select either an executive officer or another pilot and if you have any suggestions for who to get I’m all for it
