What do you all make of the whole Completionist situation?

Jirard (The Completionist) has been accused of charity fraud by several other YouTube people, and it seems they might be on to something. Scamming people out out of hundreds of thousands of dollars using your dead mom’s name and promise of helping to fund treatments for dementia is maybe the worst thing a major YouTube person has ever done, if the worst accusations are true. I still don’t know what to think. What do you guys think?

As more comes out, it looks more and more like it's a case of somebody hiding who he really was for many years, and suddenly showing his true colors when caught out. Heartbreaking.

The sheer disparity between the Discord call* and Jirard's response video is so strikingly bizarre that I honestly don't know if Jirard is unbelievably stupid, operating on incredible cognitive dissonance, or just... mentally ill. And I do mean that in as empathetic a way as I can muster, even considering that he seems to have used the memory of his dead mother to wring hundreds of thousands of dollars out of his fans and expected to get away with it forever.

*which I'm assuming Jirard knew was recorded, because there's no way Karl Jobst - personal history of problematic behaviour aside - is stupid enough to release a call that was recorded without consent/knowledge.

Yes, that Discord call was eye opening. Sea of Stars removing him from the game and the Friends Per Second podcast booting him are not good signs for his innocence, either.

I hope the lesson we all take - not just gamers or fans of this dude, but everyone who watches YT or Twitch or whatever - is not to give any of them your money OTHER THAN if you want to support them directly. Just donate to the fucking charity yourself if you're going to. There's so much room for shady shit otherwise I just wouldn't trust donating money, regardless of the story the YTer or the streamer or whatever puts out.
