Is there a way to "like" posts? For when you agree with what someone said, but posting what amounts to "yeah, what they said" feels like it amounts to overkill?
I thought the XenForo beta had that as the "froth" button. What happened to that?

Do not implement likes or an equivalent function, please. It's been a horrible idea on every forum and social platform that I've seen it on, and fosters awful, ostracizing behaviour in the community without exception.

I don't think that's what either of us used them for, and I don't appreciate this.
For what it's worth, most of the time people titled individual posts, it was to snark (usually accompanied with a silly reason for editing). This wasn't meant in derision.

I was thinking along similar lines, only with discord-style reaction emojis.

This was a temporary measure, re-skinning "likes" until it was decided what to do with them. What was decided was to remove them. If people have an opinion on that, please share it elsewhere, as it will massively derail this thread, given that prior discussions about it have always been massive, as the userbase seems split right down the middle, and some folks on both sides feel very strongly about it.

I don't agree. I used the same forum as both of you, and this is not consistent with how I saw them used, and certainly not how I used them. And the "you" certainly made it seem personal. But it's ultimately academic; we can't do it, and Bongo apologized, which I appreciate and accept.

"Snark" may be the wrong word. But it is academic, and I don't want to derail.

The like/froth feature is not really up for debate. Moderation decided long ago that it would not be a positive for the forum. There was some appeal to having your post measured in froth birds, but the negatives outweighed the positives.

I’m on mobile, and I’ve already come close to clicking ‘report’ on accident a number of times.

Is it functional? What happens if you click it? Do other posters feel like we need a report button on every post? And, if not, is it possible to remove it?

If you click on it, a window pops up to ask what you're reporting. Unless you accidentally fill that in and hit submit, you're fine.

Although the feature exists, this was put to a vote and as a result, it was decided to disable it. If it's desired to continue the discussion, please make a new thread for it.

compromise: Reimplement likes, but only for my posts. Also make liking my posts compulsory. All shall like me and despair.

(this is a joke)

A more serious suggestion is to make the strike tags available in that toolbar thingy above where you write your posts.

It was already there for everything but mobile; I've added it to the mobile toolbar as well.

Thank you very much! Now I can make really dumb jokes have another means of inserting parenthetical clauses into my posts.

For the love of all the gods above and below, can we please have an option to turn off smilies in our posts? I hate them and that handy box “disable smilies in text” we had on the old forums was nice.

If it’s possible, I’d want to have that a preference I can tick in my profile rather than every time I post tho.

The neutral Froth Bird was only being used untilI found the setting to remove it entirely. As Bongo said, votes were against it.

I am personally vehemently against “like” functions. Popularity contests (intended or not) are never fun for the inevitable losers. Instead my personal goal is to keep uplifting less heard voices.

I am loving night mode, but would it be possible to have a slightly gray-er spoiler tag color within it? the large blocks of white are pretty high contrast and glare out in longer spoiler posts.

Personally I also think the text itself could be just a bit darker, but it's not as problematic as the solid white spoiler bars.

Thanks!

Is this better?

The spoiler bars were the same color as the text. I've darkened the text just a smidge, and I've further darkened the spoiler bars.

Thanks for all the feedback on night mode. I switched to it in order to anticipate problems users might have, and I've found to my own surprise that I prefer it as well!

I have seen a function on other forums where you can write @username, and the mentioned user would get a message about being mentioned. That way, people can easily being made aware of threads they might be interested in.

Is this implementable? And, more important, is this something people here want? I don't mind too much, but I wanted to at least ask how people think about it.

"Likes", no. But reaction images are so much fun in discord; I'd love for them to be implemented here.

We need square avatars back (at the very least, above each post). Exhibit A in favor of thithatis request would be Positronic Brain's avatar right above me.

Oh, sure, bring this up after I go to all the trouble of making a round version of my old avatar specifically for this new layout. ;P
