And yes, I've lumped Google and Microsoft together. Deal with it

Yeah, it's not even a hard choice for me. Excel / Numbers / Spreadsheet are critical for so many things. Presentation software is useful, and word processing is occasionally nice, but even I, whose work revolves very little around tabulating numbers, would be very negatively impacted by the lack of decent spreadsheet software.

Considering that I could write stuff in Excel, even if it wouldn't look as nice as in Word, that decision seems simple to me. You probably could use it as a very clumsy Powerpoint, too. Easier at least, than doing Excel stuff in the other two.

So, yeah, Excel.

Oh yeah, we do client deliverables of tables and documents in Excel all the time, good point. Word just seems to break shit with formatting more than anything so burn it down.

Powerpoint is cute and fun but there are so many alternatives and ways to present things now it could go.

Word can be nifty, but generally speaking I prefer working with plaintext, so it can go.

Powerpoint has inflicted untold amounts of boredom and psychological harm on people through the power of boring presentations. Put it in a rocket and point it at the sun.

Excel is one of the pillars of modern society. Some anthropologists even argue that it is one of the defining traits of humanity. I say it's a keeper.

Here’s a shocking reveal: I’ve never used any of the Microsoft products for years. I mostly use Docs/Slides/Sheets, and out of those 3, Docs is the most consistently useful

Excel is the best. I play with it for fun.

Also if PowerPoint goes away it means I might not have to do as many presentations

I don't even understand Excel very well but it's miles better than attempted alternatives I've tried. The rest can be easily enough approximated in other programs, I feel.

As a writer, I think I'd like to hang onto my word processor. I know that objectively, Excel is useful for more tasks in ways that aren't replicable by a word processor, and I suppose I could write in Excel if I needed to, but that sucks so I won't.

Do all your writing in LaTex like a boss. If my in process paper doesn’t look like a messy code for a frogger rip off, it ain’t right.
